Batman & Superman Revelations Part 1
« Thread Started on Sept 17, 2006, 11:09am »

Chapter 1

Clark Kent was typing furiously, trying to complete his latest story for the Daily Planet on time. The atmosphere inside the Daily Planet was that of nervousness. Each person was trying to complete their task as fast as possible, and everyone was afraid it wouldn't be good enough. Clark finished typing the last line of his article. He clicked the "print" button on his keyboard.
"Hopefully next time my article will be more important than an obituary," Clark muttered to himself. His thoughts were interrupted by Jimmy Olsen, a fellow worker.
"Hey, Clark, you and Bruce Wayne are friends, right? I remember you two talking when he was in Metropolis last time," Jimmy asked.
"We're not really friends, more aquaintances," Clark replied.
"Well, come over to the TV, there's been an incident in Gotham City," Jimmy told him. Clark rose out of his seat and followed Jimmy past the rows of cubicles that looked exavctly the same as his, every single one too cramped for the person inside. Several of the cubicles were empty, and Clark could see a group of people around the TV at the end of the editorial floor. As he and Jimmy reached the television, he could see a female reporter, and an image of Gotham City on the screen.
"Last night, at Champion's Jewelry Store, owned by Wayne Enterprises, there was a break in, but only one object was found to be missing. A pendant made of green meteorite rock that fell to earth in a meteor show over two decades ago. The green meteor rocks are extremely rare to find, and it was inside the maximum security vault in the back of the store, where the public didn't even know it was there. . . "
Clark stopped listening to the reporter and started thinking about the problems this could cause. He knew that Bruce Wayne had a small ammount of kryptonite, in case something ever happened with him. Clark had been under the influence of red kryptonite when he was younger, and that made him unpredictable and dangerous, he had told Bruce to get his hands on some green kryptonite in case that ever happened again. Clark knew that he would be contacted by Bruce Wayne soon, either as Clark Kent or as his alter ego. Clark was suddenly shaken back to reality when his boss, Perry White, came over to him.
"Kent, you have a phone call from Bruce Wayne on your phone, so get the hell over there!" Perry White yelled. Clark walked over to his cubicle rather quickly, and he picked up his phone.
"Hello?" Clark answered.
"Hello Clark, it's Bruce Wayne, have you heard the reports?" Bruce said, getting straight to the point.
"Yes, I just heard about it a minute ago," Clark replied.
"I have a little inofrmation that I haven't told the authorities about yet, I thought you should know about it," Bruce said, "I know who did this. The vault door was opened by using an acid. I tested some of the leftover residue, and it's the same acid The Joker uses. I think he may be working with Lex Luthor, or even getting paid for the kryptonite."
"I'm going to take a couple days of my vacation time and come down to Gotham City," Clark said.
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Bruce asked.
"Why wouldn't it be?" Clark asked back.
"Because, we have a mad-man running around the city with a piece of kryptonite." Bruce responded.
"I feel like I need to be there, this mess most likely involves me after all" Clark said.
"Very well," Bruce said, " But I'll tell Perry that we're old friends, and that you can get an exclusive interview. Then you won't have to take any of your vacation days."
"I'll see you in about an hour then," Clark replied.
"Flying, I take it?" Bruce chuckled.
"Yes. I'll meet you at Wayne Manor," Clark said. Clark hung up the phone. He got his jacket on and prepared to leave the office.

**********
Superman tore through the night sky, enojying the cold breeze on his face. Flying was the best thing in the world, he felt so free doing it. When flying, he had no boundries. But tonight, he had a purpose, and he shook the nice thoughts out of his head and remembered the problem at hand. This kryptonite business could be disasterous. The last time Lex Luthor had gotten a hold of kryptonite, he had stabbed Superman with it, and Superman had almost died. But despite the danger, if Lex Luthor was involved in this, Bruce Wayne couldn't handle it alone. He just hoped he wasn't playing right into the Joker's hands.
The thoughts cleared from his head as Wayne Manor came within sight. Clark flew around to a waterfall about a mile past the manor, and flew through the waterfall. Instead of slamming into solid rock, he flew into the tunnel of an open cave. He flew slowly down the tunnel until he reached a room full of computers and other equipment. On a platform was also the batmobile, which looked different than Clark remembered. Clark landed next to the batmobile as an elevator lowered on the far side of the cave. Bruce Wayne and his butler, Alfred, stepped out of the elevator.
"New car?" asked Clark, who had already taken off his Superman suit.
"Yep, the last one was destroyed in a chase with Two-Face," Bruce replied.
"Say, how is old Two-Face doing in Arkham Asylum?" Clark asked.
"Well actually, it's just on the news, he's escaped, along with Mr. Freeze. The Joker busted them out," Bruce replied coldly.
"This happened in the last hour?" Clark inquired.
"Yes, But I don't think it's related to our problem," Bruce said, "They saved Joker's life last time they were loose, Nightwing was about to kill him. So I think he was just returning a favor."
"You're trying to kill Joker now?" Clark asked.
"He's too dangerous, so If I get the chance, yes, the cops also have been given the green light to kill him," Bruce replied darkly. The room stayed silent for a couple of miutes, until Alfred spoke.
"Could I get anything for you Mr. Kent?" Alfred asked.
"No thanks Alfred." Clark replied politely.
Suddenly, the red phone from Commissioner Gordon's office rang, and Bruce Wayne jogged over to the phone and picked it up. After a few seconds, Bruce's face turned dark, and he turned to Clark.
'It's the Joker," Bruce said, "Commisioner Gordon is dead. Joker wants to talk to you."
Clark walked over and grabbed the phone.
"What do you want Joker?" Clark yelled.
"Clark Kent, how did I know you were going to be there?" The Joker's cold voice said over the phone.
"How do you know who I am?" Clark asked.
"I had a little chat with Lex Luthor," Joker said, "He's a very smart man. He's buying that piece of kryptonite from me for one hundred million dollars. Quite a bargain ,considering how rare the stuff is."
"How did you know Bruce Wayne had some stored in his private bank?" Clark asked.
"Because, you twit, I know who Bruce Wayne really is, and I know he'd get some if you ever turned loopy!" Joker yelled angrily.
"What are you calling here for?" Clark asked.
"Because, I thought I'd tell you something," Joker replied, "Turn the TV on and turn to channel 34. Tell me when you're there."
"Bruce, turn the TV over there on to channel 34." Clark said. Bruce walked over to the TV and turned it to that channel. There was a fashion show on.
"Joker, i'm on the channel. What's so special about it?" Bruce asked.
"Well, one of my henchmen can override the signal anytime we want, so I'm going to show you a tape from earlier today. Enjoy!" The Joker began to laugh maniacly, and the line went dead. Bruce Wayne looked at the TV, and the picture changed. Instead of the fashion show, now it was a tape of the Joker from earlier today. He was holding a girl with a gun pointed at her head.
"Hello Batman, Superman," The Joker from the recording said, "Superman, I've decided to make your life as much hell as possible. You see this girl? Guess who it is Superman? It's your old friend from childhood, Chloe Sullivan! Guess what Superman?"
The Joker on the recording pulls the trigger on the gun. Chloe Sullivan slumps to the ground, blood pouring out of her head.
"NOOOOOOOOO!" cried Clark in anguish.
"She's dead, Superman, and there's nothing you can do about it!" The Joker laughs, " But wait, there's more Superman. Another old friend of yours from childhood is my next target. Lana Lang! So you may want to hurry up and get back to Smallville, before it's too late! Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!" The recording cuts off, and the fashion show comes back on.
Clark rips off his shirt, revealing his Superman suit underneath. He runs down the tunnel and flies down it, leaving Bruce Wayne behind. Superman emerges from the waterfall and flys into the sky.

**********
Lex Luthor sat at his desk in his office, on the phone.
"The kryptonite has arrived? It was pretty risky, sending it in the mail. Take it to Warehouse 69 in the old LexCorp Fertilizer Plant. That is where Superman will finally die." Lex hung up the phone and reclined in his chair.
"This plan is foolproof, this time I will not fail," Lex said to himself quietly.

**********
Superman landed down in front of the house in Smallville belonging to Lana Lang. The doorknob on the front door was gone. There was a note taped onto the front door. Superman grabbed the note and read it:

Superman, she's already dead, I killed her before we aired the footage of Chloe. Not so sincerely, The Joker.

Clark dropped the note and busted through the door. He used his x-ray vision to scan the house. In a bedroom on the far side of the house, he saw a body laying on the bed. Clark ran into the room, and saw Lana's body laying down on the bed, the white sheets stained red beside her head. Clark dropped to his knees and began to cry. He let out a scream of dispair that could be heard from the surrounding farms.

Batman sat on a rooftop across the street from Paulie's, a night club in the dirtiest area of Gotham City. He was on a mission, a mission to help a great friend and a fellow crimefighter. He wouldn't rest until he found the location of The Joker. As he used his Bat-Binoculars, he could see the face of Edward Nigma, known in the criminal underworld as The Riddler. He had been released from Arkham Asylum, deemed "rehabilitated". But Batman knew that he was still a force to be reckoned with. He had suspision to believe that he had helped The Penguin get into a secure vault in Gotham City Bank 2 months ago. All of the computers had been hacked into, and Batman knew how good Nigma was with computers. Batman captured The Penguin 2 days later, but The Penguin wouldn't name any of his accomplises.
Batman saw Nigma through the skylight. He was sitting at a table in the corner of the club, talking to a man dressed in black, with black sunglasses on. Batman unhooked his grapple gun from his utility belt, and aimed it at the roof of the club. He shot the grapple gun, locking it in place beside the skylight. He pressed the gun again, and the cable retracted, taking him to the roof. Batman put away his grapple gun and pulled out a batarang. He then jumped forward through the club's skylight. The glass shattered into small fragments, and Batman landed on the floor, bits of glass crashing around him. He walked over to where Edward Nigma and the unknown man were sitting. Nigma sat still, just as he had been before Batman crashed through the skylight. The other man, however, got into a martial arts stance and aimed a chop at Batman's throat. Batman grabbed his arm, blocking the attack, and then snapped it at the forearm. The man dropped to the ground, screaming in pain. Batman walked over ot Nigma until he was only a couple of feet away.
"I apologize for him, I didn't intend for him to attack you," Nigma said to Batman with a wave.
"Who is he?" Batman asked, as he looked back over at the man, who was now slinking away, holding his arm.
"His name is Devin Morrision, he wants to hire me for a job," Nigma said.
"What kind of job?" Batman inquired.
"Computer hacking, he wants me to break him into some bank in New York," Nigma replied.
"Did you hack into Gothan City Bank 2 months ago for The Penguin?" Batman fiercely asked.
"God no, why would I do that?" asked Nigma, "I'm not The Riddler anymore, I've decided it's too risky. But that incident was a while ago, I'm guessing you're here for something else, so if so, let's get to the point. if not, leave."
"I need to find The Joker, do you have any idea where he is?" Batman questioned.
"Actually, yes, I do," Nigma said, "But I can't tell you that, because if I do, he'll have me killed, and that wouldn't do at all now would it?"
"If you don't tell me where he is, I'LL KILL YOU!" Batman roared, "Tell me now!" Batman grabbed Edward Nigma by his shirt collar and lifted him up into the air with one hand. Batman raised his other hand into a fist, and held it level with nigma's head.
" O...ok, just put me down!" Nigma screamed. Batman dropped him onto a table, and held up his batarang. He threw the batarang behind him, and it knocked Devin Morrision, who was sneaking up behind Batman with a knife, down.
"From what I've heard, he's hiding in the hedge maze at the back of Wayne Manor!" Nigma yelled.
Bruce was shocked. He hasn't gone into the Hedge maze in over two weeks. Could The Joker really have been hiding under his nose all this time? Batman turned and ran out the door of the club, hitting a button on his utility belt. About a minute after he left, the Batmobile turned around the corner and stopped. Batman got in, and started racing back towards Wayne Manor.
Back inside the club, Edward Nigma smiled to himself. He unzipped his jacket and took it off. He then slipped out of his pants. He was left wearing a skintight green suit with question marks all over it. He reached into the pocket of his coat on the table, and pulled out a small green mask. He slipped it over his face. It was just big enough to cover his eyes. He reached back into his jacket pocket and pulled out a cell phone. He dialed a number. After a few seconds, he spoke into the phone: "He's heading your way now, hurry up and get out."

Clark Kent was sitting at a computer in the batcave, going over files of the previous exploits of The Joker. His train of thought was broken when The Batmobile came zooming down the tunnel onto it's parking platform. Bruce Wayne stepped out, still in his Batman outfit.
"Clark, I need you to come with me now! The Joker may be hising on the grounds!" Bruce exclaimed. Bruce got out of his batman suit, and went to the elevator. Clark followed him. They finally got outside to the back yard, and Bruce led Clark to the left, over to the hedge maze.
"Clark, use your x-ray vision and see if anyone is in there," Bruce said frantically. Clark scanned the maze. It looked clear, until one thing caught his eye. A body laying lifelessly on the ground.
"There's only a body in the middle of the maze," Clark said.
"Fly me to it," Bruce said. Clark picked up Bruce and flew to where the body was. He landed, and both him and Bruce let out a gasp. Bruce dropped to his knees and cried. Laying there, with blood coming out of a wound on his head, was Alfred. Bruce crawled over to Alfred's body, and began to sob. He saw a note pinned to Alfred's chest. Bruce grabbed the note and read it. Clark read it over his shoulder.

How do you like this Batman? The Riddler is under my employ. Don't bother going after him, he is long gone, just like your precious butler. Toodles! Signed, The Joker.
